A good Safety Data Sheet provides the user with the information he needs to carry out a suitable risk assessment for his application. One of the key aims of the Chemical Hazards Communication Society is to promote better Safety Data Sheets.

Numerous studies, including one carried out by the Chemical Hazards Communication Society, have shown considerable levels of inaccuracies in Safety Data Sheets. This is of great concern to the enforcing authorities, such as the UK Health and Safety Executive.

There are no known ‘official’ examples of completed Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) fully endorsed by a Government Competent authority or Agency.

However, an example SDS for rosin cored solder was developed by a working group led by the HSE and this has been made available on our Example Safety Data Sheets page, with the kind permission of the HSE and the CHCS Council, and by those involved in the working group.
